Not only do we see a saving in fuel costs, the elimination of exhaust emissions meaning machines can easily be run indoors, but we also see huge benefits from the simplicity in design of electric motor-powered machines when compared and diesel power units running complex hydraulic systems. This simplicity translated to savings in down time due to reduced maintenance but also considerable reductions in servicing costs. Electrically driven crushing machinery is nothing new. There are manufacturers that have been producing electric crushing machinery for the last 30 years and more, but now, as fuel costs and awareness of the damage caused by fossil fuel emissions increases, we are more and more tuned in to the transition to electric from diesel powered machines. Hybrid machines are powered both by a diesel engine and an electric motor. Usually, the electric motor will power the crusher box or rotor depending on the type of machine. The electric drive compensates for peaks in power demand during operation and this allows the diesel engine to run ata constant speed without large fluctuations in output. The net result is a much-reduced fuel consumption – up to 25 % reduction is achievable.Even if this hybrid type of machine is running on diesel 100 % of the time it still saves a substantial amount of the annual operating cost compared with a hydraulic machine because of the much lower fuel consumption coupled with lower servicing costs. Electric powered machines will have a single phase or a three phase motor which replaces the dieselengine. The motor can be utilised to power onboard hydraulic systems as well as the crusher box.One of the great advantages of fully electric powered machines is that there is no issue withemissions, and they can easily be used both indoors & outside.
